Check the card’s currency markup
A Norwegian card can add a foreign-exchange markup to a payment made in another currency. Compare the published percentage in the product details and read the issuer’s conversion terms. This is a separate cost from purchase interest or an annual fee. A card described as fee-free may still have a currency markup.
Review a NOK conversion offer
A merchant or ATM may offer to charge you in Norwegian kroner instead of local currency. That conversion can use its own rate. TF Bank recommends local currency in its foreign-use guide. Check the displayed rate and charges before accepting an offer; choosing NOK does not by itself guarantee a lower price.
Keep cash withdrawals separate
An ATM withdrawal can add the operator’s charge and cash interest, even on a card without an issuer withdrawal fee. Check those rules on the cash-withdrawal page as well. For purchases, review both the currency cost and your repayment conditions before choosing a travel card.
