Can I get a loan with a D number?

Very rarely. A D number is a temporary ID from the Norwegian Tax Administration for people who are not registered as residents. Online loan applications in Norway are signed with BankID, and most banks require a national ID number to check the Debt Register (Gjeldsregisteret).

How to become eligible

  1. Register your move to Norway and receive a national ID number when you meet the residence rules.
  2. Open a Norwegian bank account and order BankID.
  3. Have your salary paid into the Norwegian account, pay bills on time and check your credit score for free before you apply.

Refinancing expensive debt

If you already have credit cards or small loans in Norway, a refinancing loan can combine them into one loan with one monthly payment. Compare the effective interest rate and the total cost, not only the monthly amount.

FAQ

Can foreigners get a loan in Norway?

Yes, if you have a Norwegian national ID number, BankID, a registered address and income in Norway. Lenders assess each application individually, so approval is never guaranteed.
