Effective interest includes borrowing fees. Paying in full by the due date may avoid purchase interest; check the card conditions. Examples use different borrowed amounts. Their total costs are not directly comparable.

Up to a number of days is a maximum

The advertised number of interest-free days is not necessarily available for every purchase. Statement timing and the payment due date affect the length. SpareBank 1 illustrates purchases early and late in the same billing period with different time until the common due date. Use your own card’s billing schedule.

Check the full-payment condition

An interest-free purchase period can depend on paying the eligible bill in full on time. A minimum payment is not the same action. Read the issuer’s terms for how interest is calculated if a balance remains. Compare cards by both the maximum days and the repayment condition.

Do not apply purchase rules to everything

Cash withdrawals and transfers can have separate charges or interest from the transaction date. Instabank publishes no interest-free purchase period, so the usual full-payment explanation cannot be assumed for it. Check the transaction type as well as the product before treating a payment as interest-free.
