Start without BankID
DNB has a manual application for people without BankID. Complete the form yourself and follow the bank’s instructions about identity checks and additional documents. For newcomers, DNB lists a valid passport, relevant residence documentation and a D-number. Requirements depend on your situation.
Check the fee and allow for manual processing
DNB publishes a NOK 650 onboarding fee for this process, with exceptions for applicants under 18 and opening a rental deposit account. The bank reviews the application manually and may request identification at a branch. An account opening date or acceptance is not guaranteed.
Confirm how you will log in
Ask which login the bank can provide if BankID is not immediately available. DNB describes a code-device and PIN option that only logs you into its own online bank. It is not BankID for other services. BankID needs a separate agreement and identity check; use our dedicated guide if obtaining BankID itself is your goal.
Questions and answers
Can I open an account without BankID?
You can apply manually to DNB without existing BankID. The bank reviews your application and identity. Submitting the form does not guarantee an account.
What does DNB’s manual process cost?
DNB lists NOK 650, taken from the account after the customer relationship is set up. People under 18 and customers opening a rental-deposit account are exempt from this setup fee.
How long does it take?
DNB says it sends an email within two weeks about a branch visit or further information needed by post. This does not promise a completed account or BankID within two weeks.
Does opening the account automatically give me BankID?
No. An account, the bank’s own login and BankID are different services. Ask which login the bank can offer and how it assesses BankID separately.
